Rachael Masters
Rachael Masters, Consultant Dietitian, is the founder and developer of Focus on Undernutrition. Awarded a first class honours in Dietetics and a MSc distinction in clinical leadership and research; throughout her 27 dietetic career she has specialised in the nutritional needs of the elderly.
She has more than 25 years of experience of delivering nutrition training and advising care homes, catering staff and health & social care organisations. Her passion is tackling undernutrition and enhancing dining experience with swallowing problems (dysphagia).
Focus on Undernutrition provide dedicated programmes for both care and catering staff, which are endorsed by the British Dietetic Association (BDA). Each programme uses a blended learning approach, equipping students with the tools and motivation to engage and learn at their own pace.
The Catering Course covers a range of specialist topics, including menu planning; nutrition & hydration; specialist diets for diabetes, weight loss and undernutrition, swallowing problems, dementia and constipation. This unique six-module programme provides around 40 hours of training.
The Care Staff programme provides practical skills in identifying and treating undernutrition with an emphasis on food-based treatments to help weight gain for residents with a reduced appetite or at risk of undernutrition. This five-module programme provides six hours of training.
Focus on Undernutrition also offer a wide range of services including delivery of nutrition training and consultancy to health and social care organisations; company consultancy on product development and marketing; franchising services and resources to NHS and social care organisations; resource development, as well as public speaking and recipe analysis.
Rachael is a full member of the British Dietetic Association. She has been awarded sixteen national and local awards, and represented dietitians on national organisations, including the NICE quality standards.
Outside work Rachael enjoys volunteering in church and community initiatives and in her spare time, she loves baking and reading.
