This interactive study day is designed for dietitians new to allergy or who need a basic level of knowledge. Attendance will enable dietitians to acquire the knowledge towards meeting the competencies set out by NICE and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health on the recognition, diagnosis, and management of cow’s milk allergy.
Aim
To meet the basic competencies set out by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and Royal College of Paediatric and Child Heath (RCPCH) Care Pathways for the recognition, diagnosis and management of cow’s milk allergy (CMA) in infants and children.
Learning Outcomes
Key areas the study day will cover are:
- The difference between allergy and intolerance including basic immunology
- The prevalence of cow’s milk allergy
- Diagnosing the NICE way – which questions to ask
- Basics of diagnostic tests and how to interpret
- Diagnostic diets and choosing the right formula
- Food challenges and reintroductions
- Which foods to avoid for a milk free diet and suitable replacements
- Introducing solids into the milk allergic child and allergy prevention measures
- Vitamin deficiencies and faltering growth
Pre-course
Before attending the course delegates are required to complete a mandatory pre-course assessment and an online module before their attendance on the taught classroom session, access to the online module will be sent to registered delegates before the course date
