AHP Support Workforce - A guide to embedding public health in practice (HEE)

7 November 2022

Health Education England (HEE) have developed a new guide 'AHP Support Workforce - A guide to embedding public health in practice'. This provides a resource for members of the support workforce and their line managers to clarify the four domains of public health and describe how AHP support worker roles benefit the whole population’s health and wellbeing.

It sits alongside several associated guides that HEE have published to support the AHP Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework.

We know that AHP support workers are perfectly placed to support service users and the public to improve their
health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. They are often the first point of contact for our service users, spending a significant amount of time with them, developing relationships with both individuals and communities.

This document will help the AHP Support Workforce and their employers to understand what is meant by the wider determinants of health, health improvement, population health care, health protection and health inequalities. Importantly, it will recognise where and how their roles can influence and improve the public’s health.
